Iceberg Roses

The Different Varieties of Iceberg Roses

Article about Iceberg Roses by Margaret Carter

Original Iceberg Rose
Iceberg roses are one of the most popular rose varieties. Some people associate the term "iceberg" with lettuce however; these varieties of roses achieved their name due to the winter hardiness they contain. These plants produce fragrant blooms and are most attractive when complimented with appealing foliage.

The Original

This variety has roots from Deutschland (Germany) that contains white, fragrant blooms. This rose is known for its disease resistance, which makes for its carefree and easy maintenance. In addition, this beautiful plant is worth all the time and effort you dedicate to it.

Climbing

This variety has roots from England and is very hardy while producing white, fragrant blooms. One setback for some gardening enthusiasts is that this rose can only be grown on old wood, which is why one must be careful when pruning the Climbing varieties. The key is to not prune the rose for two years until the young canes have acquired some length. If you find this standard difficult, then only prune these climbing roses sparingly.

New Iceberg Rose

This variety has roots in Deutschland, not unlike the Original Iceberg. Florists love this variety because they are simply beautiful and are hybrids of the tea rose. They do not contain a strong fragrance, which proves popular for anyone who enjoys the iceberg variety of roses while not desiring the strong fragrance.

Brilliant Pink

Pink Iceberg greatly resembles the Blushing Pink Iceberg variety with the exception of containing darker pink colorations. Not unlike other Iceberg varieties, it contains the same hardiness and disease resistant quality. If you enjoy the smell of honey, the Pink Iceberg emits a honey-like fragrance.

Burgundy

These plants are known for their dark colorations with deep purple and red blooms. It originates from the Brilliant Pink Iceberg Rose and proves popular with anyone who desires some color in his or her life.

Colored

The fragrance-associated with these roses proves pleasing and moderate. This variety of Icebergs is not related to other icebergs mentioned in this article. These plants produce yellow blooms, which make them perfect for adding color to your garden and yard.

Conclusion

Iceberg roses are excellent bushes for anyone who enjoys beautiful flowers. If you live in warmer climates, keep in mind that you should prune in the winter as well. Cut the bushes back to approximately two feet high if you desire shrubs. If you want taller bushes, cut them back approximately three to four feet high.
